Very successful participation in the PUMA Grand Challenge by Carmen Colin

December 16, 2025

We are thrilled to congratulate Carmen Colin Tenorio on her remarkable achievement in the PUMA Grand Challenge https://puma.grand-challenge.org/

Hosted by the Department of Medical Oncology at the University Medical Center Utrecht, this international competition brought together over 300 participants worldwide to tackle the challenge of automated panoptic segmentation of nuclei and tissue in H&E-stained melanoma images.

Carmen joined the outstanding team TIAKong, alongside PhD students Jiaqi Lv and YiJie Zhu, with invaluable support from Brinder Singh Chohan and Shan E Ahmed Raza of the University of Warwick’s Department of Computer Science. Together, the team secured an impressive 1st place in Track 1 and 2nd place in Track 2.

Carmen is a Doctoral Candidate in the EU project #eRaDicate, employed by TissueGnostics GmbH and enrolled as a PhD student at the Medical University of Vienna.

As a follow-up to this success, we are proud to share that the paper co-authored by Carmen has been awarded Best Paper in the Frontiers in Computational Pathology section at the MIUA Conference in Leeds, UK. Read more here (https://lnkd.in/epxdWEtK).
